Poetry by the Lake

Today, I met a new friend, Melanie Reed.

My family was touring for the first time Green Lake Park, Seattle when her advertisement caught my attention --- "Your Story Here.  FREE Poetry".  As a writer at heart, that got me to my feet and the moment I neared her, she immediately embraced me with her big smile. So, I asked her "what is this all about?".  Amazingly, this lovely lady, basking under the warmth of Seattle Summer Heat, is but an advocate of "rythmic ideas".  Accordingly, during her free time, instead of staying at home, she would choose to rest at and enjoy Green Lake Park, then, let her mind wonder in all its wondrous greens and nature (not to mention the beauty of the geese, too). To make things more challenging, she would offer to write short poems to passers-by, whom she engages in a quick, cheerful chat, then, would encourage them to throw her a topic (of wide range under the sun).  In fifteen minutes or more, whowoa!, a beautiful souvenir will make their trip to Green Lake memorable and certainly more than just a worthwhile.

And the coolest part is she is always ready with a piece of fine paper which could be one's favorite color for the day ;-).

And so Melanie talked about "New Beginnings" for me and my family. "What could be more fitting than that?!".

And she would have loved to write me more if only I wasn't in a hurry.  So to comfort her, I took for ourselves a pic to assure her that she has done more than enough to surprise & brighten my day.

My Papang Carling (whom I have always looked up to as the "writer" in our family) used to say that "love for writing" is a special gift.  But poem-writing, the skill to put ideas into "rythmic words", is but a unique talent.  Anyone can write but poetry is something else ;-).

Thus, for Melanie and friends, who go around Seattle, during their "free time" to hone their poetry-writing passion, I shout a huge "Kudos!". To think on their toes and say beautiful words for some stranger is such an honorable way to promote God's gift to mankind.  When I saw her personally written poem for me, she certainly did not just entertain me.  "She lifted my soul. And made me believe of the great blessing why I am at Green Lake, Seattle."

"Wouldn't it be nice to get to know them more and write my own poems amidst them, too?  Aha? I guess, you are thinking that, too. Who knows?  This may be a sign to get back my muse ... of finding more about me ... and how much more I can give back to all of YOU ...
